Sinqobile excels in the radio studio
Radio DJ Sinqobile Masondo of Thembisa envisioned a career that would appeal to music fans everywhere.

“My uncle, Gift Mdunge, introduced me to radio when I was 14. He encouraged me to apply for Y-academy, but I couldn’t because of my age. This did not deter me from my plan and desire to become a presenter.
“I knew I had to find a way to make this dream a reality,” she told Thembisan.
“In 2019, I volunteered at The Voice Of Thembisa FM. I persevered, absorbing all the information I could and applying it wherever I had the chance.
“Zulu newsreader Busisiwe Khumalo gave me a lot of insight. It was a fantastic chance for me because it allowed me to come out of my shell and rekindle my interest in reading the news.
As the senior year of high school approached in 2020, her parents decided she needed to take a vacation away from the radio and focus on her schoolwork.
“That didn’t stop my love and enthusiasm for radio. Every morning on my way to school, during my free time at school, lunch breaks, and even after school, I continued to listen to the radio. I also used this time to research different news anchors and their skills so that when I returned to the station I could build my own style and methodology.
“I found work at Mbono Radio, an online radio station based in Thembisa. That’s when my passion for radio blossomed tremendously as management gave me the opportunity to put all the knowledge and training I had accumulated over the past few years to good use.” , Masondo said.
